Martin's Cove

This was such a special trip for our family. John's parents are serving at Martin's Cove so we took the opportunity to go visit for a couple of days. This place has such an amazing spirit! These three monuments were erected in honor of the four young men who sacrificed so much in order to help the saints get across the Sweetwater River and in honor of the Aaronic Priesthood which they held. When President Brigham Young learned what these young men had done, he wept as a child and said, "That this act alone will ensure them an everlasting salvation in the Celestial Kingdom, worlds without end."

One of the neatest experiences we had was when the girls pulled John across the river in the handcart. They were struggling a little bit - It was kind of tough for them and there was three of them pulling! They had eaten a good breakfast, they are strong and healthy, they had a good nights rest and the weather was sunny and warm. My heart was full of admiration for the pioneers who suffered so much yet never gave up hope. I am so grateful for my heritage and for the sacrifices my ancestors made to come to a place where they could worship and live in peace.

I am also extremely grateful for my Mother and Father-in law and their willingness and desire to serve a mission. It was a wonderful experience to have them share this place with us and for the extra special treatment we received from all of the missionaries. They shared so many wonderful stories of these pioneers and their profound faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

"Go in a spirit of reverence and respect, and know that you are walking on hallowed ground."

WOW! Looks like a great place. I love that the girls got to experience what so many pioneers did on a daily basis. I think that would be a great place to go.
